Luxembourg, A Small City With A Big Personality

As much as I love London, I never miss an opportunity to travel. In the last two months, I have been going to Italy and France to visit and do some personal branding photoshoots for clients. In this post, I want to introduce you to Luxembourg a pocket-size country, well worth a visit. I used to live there in the late 90s and enjoyed the quality of life living in such a small country, everything is so close nearby, with no sense of overcrowding. We used to go out to the same restaurants regularly, in such a small city you tend to know everyone in your neighbourhood.

Where is Luxembourg?

It would be difficult not to have heard about it, ever heard of tax heaven, 0% VAT? Did you know that Schengen is originally a small wine-making village and commune in far south-eastern Luxembourg?

Luxembourg is located at the border of France, Belgium and Germany. Has a population of only 520,000 people which grows massively during the daytime, as the transfrontaliers as they’re called flock into the country all over from Belgium, Germany and France for work, creating massive road blockages. It is not the Luxembourg I want to speak about though; the pictures in this post will introduce you to the quiet charm of the central city.

What should I do In Luxembourg

Best is to discover the City by foot; some lovely walks around the city start, from the Place d’Armes towards the Palais Ducal down to the “Grund“, take the circular Wenzel walk on the fortress, old town and the parts of the city outside the walls.

Museums Set in the heart of the old town, the Luxembourg City Museum of History provides an original illustration of the capital’s history dating back over a thousand years. Visitors will discover more than a thousand items displayed over six storeys, further enhanced by the possibilities offered by an interactive multimedia system.

One not to miss is the MUDAM Luxembourg-Museum d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, a place entirely created by artists for the public. The architect who designed the Louvre Pyramid designed the museum. It shows that the building is beautifully bathed in natural light like in the Louvre, displaying a mix of permanent and temporary exhibitions.  Just going for the Black Fountain by Su_Mei Tse is worth the visit!

Explore the city centre on foot. Stop for a pastry or a drink on the Place d’Armes. The city is small but invites you to take your time. Let yourself wander in places and enjoy this city like you’re discovering it with new eyes.

The country is very small, and if you have a car, I invite you to explore the Moselle River valley and the Remich area with its beautiful vineyards.

Where should I eat?

For breakfast and light lunch, try La Table du Pain, fresh country bread, juice, lovely open sandwich.

For dinner or a more substantial lunch, try Basta Cosi for the finest Italian dining experience with fresh pasta and pizzas.

For a more sophisticated dining experience in the evening, try Mesa Verde, a vegetarian and Seafood restaurant that will convert the ultimate carnivore. The food is amazingly tasteful and fresh, and they serve fantastic cocktails!

Wander to the Clausen area this is the new trendy place to be seen in Luxembourg, with lots of hype bars and restaurants.
